How to Make Turkish Coffee Without Cezve? 3 Methods

There are multiple methods for preparing Turkish coffee without cezve such as on the stove, in the microwave, and using an electric kettle. Below are the detailed step-by-step procedures for each method that I follow for making Turkish coffee without cezve.

1. Making Turkish Coffee on the Stove

Making Turkish coffee on the stove is the common and simplest process. You can just make a super refreshing coffee by following the steps below.

  • Buy fresh premium coffee beans grounds from the local store, or online. This will extract more flavors while brewing.
  • After buying the grounded coffee beans, bring out your heat-resistant small pot with a narrow neck.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of grounded coffee beans to the small pot with filtered water. You can add one more tablespoon of grounded coffee for a strong flavor.
  • Continuously stir the water and ground coffee beans with a spoon to mix it well after putting the pot on the stove over medium heat. You can also add sugar if you like it to be a bit sweet.
  • Once the brewing process is completed and you start seeing bubbles, remove the pot from the stove and let it rest for a few seconds until the bubbles settle in.
  • Again place the pot on the stove over low heat this time, and wait for the bubbles to appear.
  • After the bubbles appear again, simply remove the pot from the stove and wait until ground coffee sinks underneath the pot.
  • Now, it is time to serve your flavorful Turkish coffee, pour it into your coffee cup and enjoy it.

2. Making Turkish Coffee in the Microwave

Another method is preparing Turkish coffee in the microwave, but there is a risk of making the coffee taste burnt if the process is not followed properly. Here, I have given the instructions that you can follow for making delightful Turkish coffee.

  • Add 1-2 tablespoons of ground premium fresh coffee with 100-120ml of warm water in a microwave-safe cup. You may add 1 tablespoon of sugar based on your choice.
  • Stir them well with a spoon so that it completely mixed with the warm water.
  • Place the cup in the microwave and heat it for 30 seconds to 1 minute at a medium setting. The time depends on the temperature of the water in a cup which you put in the first step.
  • Once the heating is complete, carefully take out the cup from a microwave with gloves or a microwave-safe cloth as it might be hot.
  • Stir the coffee with a spoon again for a minute or two. You will see a thick foam appears on the top of the cup.
  • Let it sit for a while until the coffee grounds sink underneath the cup. Then, your Turkish coffee is ready to serve at your table.

3. Making Turkish Coffee in an Electric Kettle

Preparing Turkish coffee in an electric kettle is the easiest and simplest method, but this method can only be helpful for those who have an electric kettle in their kitchen. So, if you have an electric kettle, don’t hesitate to make your Turkish coffee in it by following the procedures.

  • Measure the amount of water and ground fresh premium coffee. Generally, you will need 1 tablespoon of coffee ground for 100-120 ml of water.
  • After measuring, add the ground coffee and water directly into the electric kettle. If you prefer sweetened, you can add sugar.
  • Stir with a spoon to mix it properly with the water.
  • Turn on the electric kettle, adjust it to the lowest setting possible, and wait until the water boils. Keep an eye on the water as Turkish coffee can boil fast.
  • Once the water starts boiling, turn off the electric kettle, and let it simmer for a minute or so, stirring it slowly.
  • Let the coffee ground settle under the kettle, and then, pour the coffee into the coffee cup to enjoy.

Which Coffee Beans to Use in Turkish Coffee?

I normally choose Arabica coffee beans for making Turkish coffee because of their premium quality. However, you can also use a combination of Arabica and Robusta coffee beans for a more cost-effective option.

When choosing coffee beans, look for dark-roasted coffee beans that suit well with Turkish coffee because of the flavor and aroma, and it is better to grind fresh before using it. You can also buy fresh ground Arabica and Robusta coffee beans from the local market if you don’t have a grinder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Use Regular Coffee Grounds Instead of Turkish Grind?

Yes, you can use regular coffee grounds such as Arabica or Robusta instead of Turkish grind, but it’s important to ensure the grind size. The grind size for Turkish coffee should look similar to powdered sugar, even finer than expresso.

For the best result, I would recommend you to use a burr grinder to grind the coffee to achieve a finer grind for Turkish coffee.

Will the Turkish Coffee Taste as Good as Without a Cezve?

Yes, Turkish coffee will taste similar to as good as Cezve if you don’t use it. However, you may not get rich foam that only Cezve produces. So, if you can sacrifice the foam, you can make Turkish coffee without Cezve.

Can You Put Milk in Turkish Coffee?

Yes, milk can be added to Turkish coffee for a smoother taste, but it’s important to note that traditional Turkish coffee is enjoyed without milk. Moreover, many coffee enthusiasts prefer the rich, raw taste of Turkish coffee without adding anything.

Does Turkish Coffee Need Filter?

No, Turkish coffee doesn’t need a filter. Turkish coffee is brewed from finely grounded coffee beans which settle in the bottom of the cup and create a nice flavorful froth on top without needing any filter.

Why Turkish Coffee Is So Famous?

Turkish coffee is famous for its rich taste and aroma due to its fine grind. Also, people love the way it is prepared and served.
